Semantics is the study of meaning. It focuses on the relation between signifiers (e.g. signs, words, phrases) and what they stand for, i.e. their significations/denotations. In this course, we will explore the most important semantic concepts (e.g. prototypes, conceptual metaphors, semantic frames, various paradigmatic sense relations), phenomena (e.g. idiomatization) and methods (e.g. componential analysis) from different approaches to semantics (e.g. Cognitive Semantics, Structural/Lexical Semantics).

Registration: The number of participants in this course is limited to 40 students. Please use the course moodle to enrol for this class. Enrolment starts on 7 October at 10 a.m..
