The course introduces students to the special characteristics of the agricultural sector in relation to global climate change. The objective is to create knowledge about basic facts relating to agriculture’s exposure and contribution to climate change as well as awareness about the special features that frame the discussion on climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in the agricultural sector.
The course will be divided into four blocks: (i) The impact of climate change and agriculture and the impact of agriculture on climate change; (ii) the sectoral characteristics of agriculture with a focus on natural resource interconnectivity and competition for land as well as the trade implications relating to food security and climate change; (iii) international responses, including financing and policy instruments; and finally (iv) mitigation and adaptation strategies, including case studies.
