In this course, students will be introduced to the field of lexicography, from both a theoretical and practical angle. First, recent lexicographic developments will be discussed, particularly in the writing of variety dictionaries of English. Then, students will be given the in-class task to compile their own dictionary entries, based on the formal and theoretical principles learned in the theoretical part. The seminar will take place in a computer lab, and the number of participants is hence limited to 20.
