Please follow the "comment" link above for more information on comments, course readings, course requirements and grading. In this seminar we will talk about different approaches towards the correlation of language and gender. The seminar is based on a constructionist paradigm according to which social parameters such as gender are understood as outcomes of human agency. Apart from reflections about constructionism, the participants are expected to research, present and discuss past and more current sociolinguistic theories on the interrelation of language and gender. The discussions are aimed at sharpening the critical view of students on (the strengths and weaknesses of) different social-scientific lines of argument. The number of participants in this course is limited to 30 students!
