As an introduction course for the Rabbinic Literature the study of the festivals will be used as an example for getting to know the basic structure of the Talmudic and Midrashic literature from various aspects: History, Theology and bibliographic aspects.
In regard to the text of the festive days: This course will examine the development of several Halakhaic issues in the main Jewish Festivals: for example: Blowing the Horn (Shoffar) on Rosh Hashana The Seder of Passover Sabbath and Yom Tov prohibitions etc.
This Course will offer to the students close reading in the main texts from the Talmud and their continuation in the medieval Halakhic discussions (from various Jewish communities).
