Teaching methods
The seminar consists of a combination of interactive lectures and group discussions. This combination enables the students to develop an analytic and critical attitude towards the topics under discussion.
Each meeting has the following structure:
First part: Elaboration of topic by lecturer (45 minutes), group critical discussions (30 minutes).
Break: 15 minutes.
Second part: presentation of discussion points (45 minutes), group critical discussions/role play (30 minutes).
Selected scientific articles and book chapters (in English) to be read for the course meetings will be provided in the upcoming weeks. Recommended but not required additional material will be in German.
Seminar assignments: There will be assignments during the seminar in the form of discussion points that need to be submitted via email before each meeting. For the first meeting no discussion point is required.
Essay: Each student chooses a topic of the present seminar: communication skills, conflicts at school, mediation and conflicts resolution, teacher professional stress, resilience and coping strategies and reflexivity in professional learning. Students are expected to write a paper based on one of these topics.
During the first meeting further information about discussion points and final essay will follow.
