This course will be team taught. Weeks 1 through 7 will be taught by Ursula Moffitt and weeks 8 through 15 by Miriam Schwarzenthal.
From an inclusion perspective, all children have a right to quality education. When children do not have the same access to quality education, this can be viewed as educational inequity. In the classroom, migration is an increasing source of diversity, in conjunction with cultural change. In this class we will learn about theories, research, and applied work addressing the challenges and benefits in teaching to diverse classrooms. One goal of the class is to provide a theoretical and empirically based foundation for understanding culture, diversity, and equity, particularly in the school context. The course will focus on the German context while drawing on international research and examples.
