Kursbeschreibung: Coping with risk and uncertainty is an issue of increasing relevance in both governments and academia. This course addresses the governance of risk, e.g. how governments deal with risks, and how governments organize themselves to cope with risk and uncertainty. Handling of risks is closely connected to the interaction of science and politics. Hence, theoretically, this course tackles questions of the organization and institutionalization of risks and scientific knowledge in modern governments. Empirically, the course focuses on climate change as a highly topical global risk and policy problem and looks at how different governments organise capacities to politically and administratively handle climate risks. The course provides insights into both country-specific ways to prepare for the problem of climate change and into organisational solutions at the international level. This module is offered for the Master of Public Management (MPM), open spaces are given to other students of the faculty. The module takes a maximum of 16 students.
