The course will teach the traditional Ashkenazi cantillation-chants for the three Megillot (i. e. Song of Songs, Ruth and Ecclesiastes) which are read publicly on the Three Pilgrimage Festivals (Shalosh Regalim). The students will learn the musical motifs as well as the combinations of the motifs which make up this cantillation system and they will practice applying the system to the different texts. The students will be tested by chanting ed passages from these books. The course will also introduce the students to traditional and modern songs which are based on ed texts from these three biblical books. The students will learn to sing the songs and to apply some of them to the synagogue services and home ceremonies.
