The seminar will explore Jewish social and cultural networks that emerged between Eastern Europe and Argentina following the mass migrations at the turn of 19th and 20th century. The students will learn about the way how Jewish migration influenced both Eastern Europe and Latin America. During the seminar we will examine Jewish cultural and linguistic developments in Latin America, including questions of cultural integration, linguistic evolution, the importance of home-country belonging and involvement in global Yiddishist networks. The seminar will be condcuted in English and German. Knowledge of Yiddish or Spanish is not obligatory.

The seminar will explore Jewish social and cultural networks that emerged between Eastern Europe and Argentina following the mass migrations at the turn of 19th and 20th century.
