You have just started working in a recently founded non-governmental organization which deals with international environmental issues. Your supervisor asks you to assist her in designing the strategy that will guide the organization's work. As a preparation for this new job, you decide to enroll in this course.
The objective of the seminar is for students to answer the following research question: how can non-governmental organizations influence global environmental policy? To do so, each session will be devoted to a step of the research process. Students will be introduced to global environmental governance, they will operationalize the research question, search for literature, critically analyze said literature, and build on this new knowledge to devise a methodological approach to perform an empirical analysis.
Through this problem-oriented and research-based learning, students will not only develop their knowledge on global environmental governance, but also strengthen transversal skills such as critical thinking and giving oral presentations.
Considering that the course will be held in English (reading English texts and writing the report in English) students need good language skills to be able to actively participate in the class.
