In this course we will examine African-American literature of the contemporary moment and will study the manifold ways in which African-American Literature both reflects and shapes the shifting political and cultural climate of North America. We will discuss African-American perspectives on questions of space and time, cultural memory, slavery, globalization and cosmopolitanism as well as violence and racism.
