While mundane everyday talk is the home environment of interaction, we also need to be able to interact successfully in institutional settings. Business negotiations, classroom interaction, service encounters, and doctor-patient interaction are just some of the relevant workplace situations in which participants need to know the rules. But is there anything special to know? Does turn-taking work differently? Are there specific ways to accomplish action? What is the role of the situational factors? Are certain language patterns used? These are some of the questions participants may cover in this course, using fitting methodology to generate empirically based interactional-linguistic knowledge with regard to their own research question concerning institutional interaction, in order to later be able to professionally contribute to enhancing communicative processes, for instance (cf. website http://www.uni-potsdam.de/de/kovame/kompeling-pilotprojekt/informationen-fuer-studierende.html
