This seminar examines the links between diversity and social inequalities in contemporary societies, including Germany. In the first part of the seminar (meetings 1 & 2), consideration will be given to the meaning of diversity and to the analysis of educational practices related to the production and perpetuation of inequalities. In the second part (from meeting 3 to meeting 9), the seminar will then turn its attention to the analysis of how different forms of diversity may lead to inequalities in education. In third and final part of the seminar (meetings 10 & 11), teaching strategies and interventions that empower student diversity will be presented and discussed.
Additional information: This seminar will be held in English. However, a short list of selected words that will be used during the meetings and their German translations will be provided by the lecturer at the beginning of every meeting. Optional readings in German will be provided if needed. Small group discussions among students during the seminar could be held in German.
