Description

This project seminar aims at introducing students to the various issues of teaching English as a second language to young learners. Special emphasis will be put on the principles of foreign language teaching and learning and their implications for teaching English in primary school. This will lead us to the questions of how to develop listening and speaking skills at a very early level. Because the seminar is meant to prepare students for their later teaching practice we will not only discuss course content theoretically but transfer our findings to practical scenarios in cooperation with a kindergarten in Potsdam.
The seminar will begin with weekly sessions that enable the students to independently plan their own English lessons. Students will then observe and teach kindergarten children on two Tuesdays between 9-12 am. Own teaching will be reflected upon based on theoretical and scientiic concepts in oral and written form.
