Bemerkung

Content of the module: Data processing and analysis in the field of volcano seismology

- data collection using seismometers and rotational sensors

- data conversion

- standard workflow in data processing

- location of signals

- volcanic event types

- automatic triggering systems

- theory on filter, convolution, deconvolution, Fourier-transform, frequency and impulse response function

Teaching aims:

- Programming in python

- application of the seismological python packages Obspy and Pyrocko at various volcano seismological research questions

- Understanding and application of the fundamentals of digital signal processing related to seismic recordings from volcanoes

Class:

The class is a mixture of normal lectures, interactive lectures and exercises. The exam will consist of three parts: (i) a seminar talk in the second last week of term, (ii) questions on the lecture and exercise content and (iii) exercises to solve. Due to COVID-19 the module will be carried out online. I will either provide the lecture online or we will meet Thursdays from 12:15 online using a server for an interactive class. I will send you the link beforehand in order to join.

Copyright:

Due to our change to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemy, I will provide teaching materials online to a much greater extent than usual. They are intended for a limited group of users, i.e. the participants of this class in module. You may save the materials for personal use on your computer, but you may not distribute, forward, save or make them publicly available online. Violations will be prosecuted by the university.
