Due to the elearning-requirements in summer term 2020, slide decks will be uploaded every week. These pdf files contain audio-files that replace the lecture. Additionally, a web conference (probably using Zoom) will be held every Thursday at 2pm where you may ask questions concerning the lecture.

The course builds on concepts taught in the classes Microeconomics I, Microeconomics II, and Advanced Microeconomics.

A final exam will be held at the end of the term.

This lecture provides an introduction to development economics. Starting from this general introduction, it will focus on market failure, in particular in the form of market power, as an impediment to countries’ economic development. We will study the relevance of competition policy / competition law for addressing this form of market failure. Similarly, we will learn how to analyze market power using models from industrial organization.
