The present class is concerned with the crucial and still not released and resolved crux of linguistics: How are grammatical and lexical categories connected among each other to produce meaningful units and to be comprehensible with and without context. The field which interconnects syntax, semantic and pragmatics is often not very clearly defined since many linguists try to approach it from different perspectives. E.g. some try to capture the problem by D-linked phenomena, others still rely on Gricean global rationality which does not however explain the implicatures (be it scalar or conversational). We will rely on some recent findings in the book edited by Grewendorf and Zimmermann (eds.) Discourse and Grammar. From Sentence Types to Lexical Categories. Boston, Berlin: de Gruyter 2012.
Students are requested to read the articles of the book mentioned (Grewendorf and Zimmermann 2012) before attending and they have to know English on B2/C1 level at least.

Leistungsnachweis 3 LP unbenotet kurze Präsentation von 15 Minuten, 3 LP benotet kurze Präsentation von 20 Minuten und eine ausgearbeitete Abgabe am Ende der LV, 4 LP mitellange Präsentation von 30 Minuten mit relevanter neuerer Literatur und Hausarbeit, 6 LP Modularbeit (bis zu 20 S. mit relevanter Literatur auf dem neuesten Forschungsstand)
