This seminar is based on a book am I finishing at the moment. We will read and discuss together various texts on the history of Ekaterinoslav-Dnipropetrovsk-Dnipro and focus on such research questions as: Cossack vs Imperial genealogy of the city, late 19th century`s industrialization and its social and cultural costs, the kaleidoscope of powers during the Revolutions of 1917-1919, the Soviet ”Ukrainization” politics, the German occupation in 1941-1943, the paradoxes of Soviet closed city and its` Brezhnev`s mythology, the challenges of post-Soviet transition of one of the biggest Ukrainian cities.
