Readings of the Responsa of the Rabbinical Assembly Committee on Jewish Law and Standards - Einzelansicht

Rulings regarding a variety of halakhic issues relevant to contemporary Jewish life. We will read papers written by Masorti/Conservative rabbis relating to gender equality, homosexuality, Shabbat observance, and conversion. While the responsa are written in English, texts from the Bible, the Talmuds and their commentaries, law codes, and earlier responsa are cited in the papers in the original Hebrew and Aramaic, as are other halakhic texts that will be studied. Students should come to class prepared to read and discuss all the assigned material.
