This seminar offers an overview over key events, texts, concepts, and literary movements of U.S.-American history from the colonial period to the 1960s. We will study ed texts from the American colonial period, the American Revolution and the Early Republic, the antebellum era, the Civil War and expansionism, and the Civil Rights movement, among others. The texts and approaches employed in this class serve to combine the concerns of literary and cultural studies with the study of American history.
