Inscriptions play an important role in the study of Roman antiquity. Through them, we can gain an insight not only into the official representation of the empire but also into very private areas of ancient life. This course is designed to give an introduction to the discipline of epigraphy and does not assume any basic knowledge. The aim is to get to know the different types of inscriptions, to deal with their content and the historical context and thus to broaden the historical horizon. The course is offered by Irene Berti (Heidelberg University of Education), Tibor Grüll (University of Pécs, Hungary) and Marc Tipold (University of Potsdam). The course will be mostly asynchronous, with joint Zoom sessions. Students will receive further information and access data at the beginning of the course.
Please note: Due to its international setting, videos and other learning material will be in English.
