Speaking constitutes a crucial part of FL learning and teaching. Although it is a natural everyday activity, it involves a range of complex mental processes, which need to be automatized by FL learners. Hence being able to speak fluently and accurately may pose a challenge to many students of English.
This course aims to address the development of this highly demanding skill in the EFL classroom. We will explore the theoretical background of speaking as a skill and examine its role in curricular guidelines. We will also take a look at various methods and activities that promote speaking in the FL classroom and we will develop our own teaching materials. Finally, we will take a brief look at some aspects related to the evaluation and assessment of speaking activities, as well as address the development of FL learners’ speaking skills in the world dominated by digital communication.
