MS-EEC: Can replace „Advanced Ecological Modelling – Ökologische Modellbildung für Fortgeschrittene” in „Ecol. Modeling with Computer Simulations”;

Voraussetzung:

- Erfolgreiche Teilnahme an der Veranstaltung "Programmieren für Ökologen/Einführung in die ökol. Modellbildung". Eventuell kann auch anderweitige Programmiererfahrung (z.B. erworben im BSc) ausreichend sein - diesen Fall aber bitte im Vorfeld mit der Lehrperson absprechen!

- Grunderfahrung mit R, z.B. vorherige Teilnahme am R Brückenkurs (MS-EEC R preparatory course von Prof. Dr. Zurell).

Prerequisite:

- Successfull participation in the course "Programming for Ecologists & Introduction to Ecologcial Modelling". Alternatively, programming experience obtained otherwise may be sufficient as well, however, please talk to the instructor about this prior to the course!

- Basic knowledge of R, e.g. prior participation in the MS-ECC R preparatory course (Prof. Dr. Zurell).

In this course, you will (1) learn how to choose a suitable statistical model for a data set and ecological question, (2) learn and understand the main concepts and tools of model fitting (this is, e.g., what you do when you use a linear model or GLM/GLMM to analyse your data, or when you perform a, possibly nonlinear, regression). This will both increase your understanding of standard statistical procedures as well as enable you to analyze data with greater flexibility. The course combines lectures with hands-on sessions using statistical software R.
