Speaking constitutes a crucial part of FL learning and teaching. Although it is a natural everyday activity, it involves a range of complex mental processes, which need to be automatized by FL learners. Hence being able to speak fluently and accurately may pose a challenge to many students of English. This course addresses the development of this highly demanding skill in the EFL classroom by including both theoretical and practical components.
The main objectives of this course are:
1) to explore the theoretical background of speaking as a skill and examine various methods and activities that promote speaking in the FL classroom,
2) to make use of the theoretical background when organizing a workshop day for a group of school pupils,
3) to reflect on your teaching materials and the very development process.
Organisation:
Due to the nature of this course, participants will be required to both attend our regular weekly on-site sessions and fulfil the time-flexible group work assignments.
Please note: At some point during the semester, classroom teaching may have to switch to online teaching due to pandemic-related circumstances. Course requirements may be subject to change.
In order to gain the most out of this course, participants are advised to have completed the IELT lecture.
