Fieldwork - Einzelansicht

Course Begin: 26 April 2022 !!!

In this course, students will become acquainted with the first theoretical and practical steps in doing linguistic fieldwork. The course offers a mixture of theoretical and practical components.

In the theoretical part of the course (mainly in the first part), we will look at the do's and dont's of good fieldwork practice and fieldwork methods in phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. In the practical classes, students will start eliciting their own data with native speaker consulants, followed by recurrent feedback-loops.

This work will continue in the more practical second class of the module in the winter semester when students can look at specific phenomena in more detail.

Target languages (yet to be determined, depending on number of students and availability of informants): Ukrainian, Finnish, or Igbo.
