The ideas about ancient "religion" are very diverse: From human and bloody animal sacrifices to secret cults, this paints a colourful picture of the pre-modern religious landscape. This course will provide an introduction to ancient cult practice - from local cults of the Greco-Roman world to cults of the High Imperial period to early Christianity.The main focus of the course is on the different epigraphic evidence. In addition, the course will provide an introduction to the methodology and working methods of epigraphy and familiarise students with the most important sources on "ancient religion".The PÜ takes place in the course of the EDUC project with international participation:

Every 14 days there will be a synchronous Zoom meeting where we can discuss the material and answer questions. You will receive further information by mail at the beginning of the semester.
Beachten Sie bitte: Da wir mit internationalen Kolleginnen und Kollegen zusammenarbeiten, werden wir auf Englisch miteinander kommunizieren. In den gemeinsamen Sitzungen ohne internationale Beteiligung können Fragen etc. gerne auch auf Deutsch besprochen werden.
