How can foreign language teachers contribute to the education of global citizens? This seminar will explore ways of teaching the SDGs in the EFL classroom. We will take a look at education for sustainable development as part of the UN Agenda 2030 and its commitment to the 17 sustainable development goals. As part of a critical and transformative pedagogy, education for sustainable development invites educators to support their learners’ competences as world citizens who take responsibility in shaping social and sustainable futures. we will discuss theoretical and methodological approaches and discuss what it means to educate foreign language learners as global citizens. Students will collaborate with a group of international students from SUNY Cortland, New York, during a summer school and develop teaching materials and activities for the classroom.
