The seminar looks at the relationship between race and nature, specifically literature that deals with (or exemplifies) environmental racism.
Examples include The Overstory, by Richard Powers, Aminatta Forna's novel, Happiness, the play Black Men Walking by writer/rapper Testament and the tutor's own works including Wind / Rush Generation(s) (and Family Tree, Theoretical perspectives will be drawn from books such as Ghassan Hage's Is Racism and Environmental Threat?, Paul Outka's Race and Nature, Christina Sharpe's In the Wake and Amitav's Ghosh's The Great Derangement.
