Children enter our classrooms with different interests, preferences, experiences, strengths and learning styles, often coming from various social, cultural and language backgrounds. In the light of inclusive education, increased immigration and multilingualism and (possibly) the consequences of difficult schooling and learning conditions during the pandemic, teachers are faced with increasingly heterogeneous classrooms. Diagnosing and responding to the learners' individual needs and finding ways to support them in reaching their potential is a huge and overwhelming challenge for teachers.

In this course we will get to know some of the dimensions of learner heterogeneity and diversity in the classroom. We will study the theoretical foundations and core principles of differentiated and individualised learning and review existing models of differentiated instruction. Taking a look at concrete examples and teaching material for the primary EFL classroom, we will discuss techniques and strategies that help you to differentiate your English lessons. Participants will get the opportunity to design (e.g. speaking, reading, listening, writing) tasks/activities to cater for learners with different abilities and needs.

Please note: Once you have signed up and been admitted on PULS, you will receive an email via PULS to let you know how to access the Moodle course. If you can not (yet) access PULS and are interested in taking this course, please send me an email.

Bemerkung

Achtung: Das Seminar richtet sich, anders als auf PULS verzeichnet, nur an Studierende der Primarstufe Englisch.
