The first half of this seminar will be reserved for an in-depth reading of Mary Shelly's classic novel, supported by influential interpretations from a wide range of theoretical perspectives including marxist, psychoanalytic, postcolonial and feminist positions. In the second half of the term, we will turn to such contemporary literary adaptations of Frankenstein Jeanette Winterson, Kazuo Ishiguro and Ahmed Saadawi.
