Allomorphy - Einzelansicht

In this seminar we will discuss the morphological phenomenon called allomorphy. We will discuss the following topics:

1. types of allomorphy (true vs surface allomorphy, context/trigger types)
2. the direction of allomorphy: are there restrictions on/generalisations about the direction of the trigger (structurally higher/lower) relative to the target of allomorphy? Is each type of context available/relevant in each direction?
3. locality of allomorphy: Do trigger and target of allomorphy have to be contained in a certain local domain? How big is this domain?
4. cross-linguistic patterns of allomorphy (attested and unattested patterns, explanations for the ab-/pre-sence of these patterns)

More generally, we will learn more about the internal hierarchical structure of complex words, the representtion of morphosyntactic features (decomposition), the modelling of the syntax-morphology-interface (as in the widely-adopted framework of Distributed Morphology).
