This seminar deals with the thought of the social psychoanalyst Erich Fromm. His 'concept of man' and his position on history, society, and religion will be examined, in biographical, philosophical, and theological contexts, mainly with correlations to other relevant Jewish philosophers of his time. A central question will be: how should the theological factor be understood within his definition of "humanistic religion"?
Referat, one in-class presentation (30-45 min) and submission of its manuscript (printed)
