There are no regular meetings for this seminar. Students are expected to find a supervisor and to coordinate meetings with their supervisor themselves.
Students who wish to have access to the Moodle site for this course should register on PULS.
Students who wish to take this course are recommended to have completed at least 42 LP worth of mathematics courses at the master level.
In this module, students will work on projects that are proposed by one or more members of the research groups at the Institute of Mathematics.Each student will find a supervisor for their work on this project. The supervisor will propose a topic and assignments that lead to the preparation of a written report.The aim of the course is for students to gain experience with reading, doing and writing about scientific research, and thereby to prepare for the Master's Thesis.
Participants are required to follow the principles of good academic practice, as described in the University of Potsdam's guidelines (English version).
Students are strongly recommended to find a supervisor and agree on a topic before the end of the registration, enrollment, and withdrawal period for courses, as stated in the academic calendar.
Students are expected to coordinate one-on-one meetings with their supervisor.
Students must submit a written report on a topic assigned by their supervisor. The report will be graded.
The supervisor may require that the student complete other assignments as preparation for the written report, such as giving a presentation about the content of the report.
Students will acquire reading, writing, and presentation skills that are useful for writing the master's thesis, in a 'learning-by-doing' format. More precisely, students will:
