What makes a Jewish community strong and sustainable?
In this seminar, we will introduce basic theoretical concepts and praxis of community development and discuss key capacities of strong Jewish communities. Students will have the opportunity to analyze relevant studies and data, explore major challenges for communal life inside and outside of Germany, and learn about possible interventions and practical community development tools.
We will look at Jewish communities as complex systems and will explore concepts of participation, asset-based community development, and the importance of networks, social interactions, and relationships in communal work. The course aims to help you with practical work in the congregations.
Literature and sources will be made known during the course of classes.
Students have to give an oral presentation of a case.
